Processes & Important Dates

Residence Classification Process

Tuition and Fees are assessed each term based on a residence classification: Resident or Nonresident. All incoming students must complete a Statement of Legal Residence (SLR) so that a residence determination can be made. See SLR Submission Dates below. If a student does not complete the SLR or submit the necessary documents, the student will be classified as a Nonresident and will be assessed Nonresident Supplemental Tuition. Students classified as Nonresident in a prior term may petition for change of classification to resident once all the UC Residence requirements are met. See Petition for Classification to Resident Filing Dates below.

Residence Deputies in the Office of the University Registrar will determine whether the student and parent(s) are California residents for purposes of tuition and fees. The presumption of Residence Deputies is that students and their parents have read and understand the UC Residence requirements prior to submitting their residence information for determination of residence for tuition purposes.

Accommodations

To request a reasonable accommodation for a disability when completing either a Statement of Legal Residence or a Petition for Classification to Resident contact a Residence Deputy.

Petition for Classification to Resident

Petitions for Classification are filed online and are used by continuing UC Davis Students classified as Nonresident in a prior quarter who are seeking Resident classification.

Filing Periods

Filing Periods close on midnight of the First Day of Instruction for the applicable quarter. Students on the semester system are also subject to that deadline. Late Petitions for Classification to Resident will typically not be accepted. Students missing the deadline for substantive reasons; such as, medical or family emergency, administrative error, or other extenuating circumstance will need to contact a Residence Deputy for access to the online Petition form.
