Automatic Exceptions are pre-approved, system-programmed exceptions to requirements that appear directly in a student’s degree audit. They provide additional or more flexible ways to satisfy a requirement when those options cannot be fully represented in the General Catalog.
These exceptions are not intended to replace or bypass catalog updates. Instead, they reduce the need for individual exception requests in cases where the catalog cannot reasonably accommodate the exception.
Eligibility Criteria
Automatic Exceptions must:
- Apply to all students within the specified college, major, or minor.
- Preserve all existing catalog options and pathways.
- Not add new requirements beyond those published in the catalog.
Approval Process
Automatic Exceptions must be submitted and approved through the Automatic Exception Petition process.
Automatic Exceptions apply only to currently published catalog years and do not automatically carry forward to future catalogs. If an exception is needed for a future catalog year, a new petition must be submitted and approved after the catalog is published.
