Classroom Use

General Assignment Classrooms are a shared campus resource that support instruction across all academic departments and units. To ensure a safe, clean, and productive learning environment for everyone, please adhere to the following classrooms use rules. These expectations apply to all instructors, staff, students, and users of General Assignment classrooms.

Start & end class on time

Most classrooms are scheduled back-to-back throughout the day, making it essential for classes to start and end on time. This ensures smooth transitions between classes and supports the equitable and efficient use of classroom space.

Exit the classroom at the scheduled end time

Due to limited space availability, instructors, staff, students, and other users must vacate the room promptly at the end of their class or event. This allows instructors and students to transition to another class and allows the next class to begin on time. Please be courteous to the preceding class by allowing them a moment to finish any final tasks before entering the room.

Reset the classroom after use

  • Replace moveable chairs, tables, and items to their original location.
  • Return all technical equipment (e.g., microphones, remotes) and supplies (e.g., markers, erasers) to their designated places.
  • Erase whiteboards and chalkboards completely.

Maintain safety & accessibility

  • Do NOT move furniture or equipment into or out of classrooms.
    • This is strictly prohibited by California Fire Code and classroom & facilities regulations.
  • If the classroom capacity, configuration or equipment does not meet your needs, please contact the Scheduling Team through your department scheduler—do not attempt to switch classrooms or modify the space yourself.
  • All aisleways and exits must remain clear at all times to ensure safe evacuation routes and ADA accessibility
  • Do NOT lock the classroom door when leaving.

Keep classrooms clean

  • Food and drinks are not allowed in General Assignment classrooms (except for water).
  • Dispose of all trash appropriately
  • Posting unauthorized signs on walls, equipment or other surfaces is not allowed.
  • Do not leave personal belongings in the classroom

If you encounter broken equipment, missing furniture, or other facility or AV equipment issues, report them immediately to the Classroom Hotline at 530-752-3333.
