Re-Imagining the General Catalog

I spent the last few months working within a group of about 10 people (advisors, staff, etc.) to address suggestions and comments from the larger Advising for Equity Administrative Advisory Committee. We developed quite a few changes for the 2024-2025 & 2025-2026 catalogs.

First, and probably the most visibly obvious, is the focus of the catalog has evolved to reflect what is directly related to a student obtaining their degree. What does that mean? In broad terms, it means that we trimmed out content that was not needed at the degree level. So, things like Admissions, Financial Aid, etc., are now sourced out to their respective worlds, no longer a point of reference in the catalog. Why? We want students to access the most up-to-date information possible. Locking information into the catalog in an ever-changing world makes no sense. Let's allow students to go directly to the source, reducing stopping points (clicks) and the chances of out-of-date information.

You'll notice a substantial reduction in the yellow, right-side, submenu. Some of this information has been relocated, but most has been removed.

We added a distinct separation between the Undergraduate & Grad/Prof sections, with the Grad/Prof section receiving more attention and even more so for the 25-26 catalog.

Inside the Undergraduate section there's clearer separation between University & College Degree Requirements sections.

Another change you'll see is that academic-year degree-related Policies, Procedures, & Regulations are captured in footnotes, where needed. This is shift from linking out to information to actually documenting each referenced item into the catalog.

We are making more changes to the look & feel of the 25-26 catalog that aren't possible in the 24-25 catalog due to vendor template limitations.
