End-of-Term

This section is designed to assist the user in understanding the notations and information detailed at end of each term.

It is important to note that Academic Standing is NOT recalculated after a Summer Session. Also, term-specific academic standing notations, while noted on the internal transcript, are NOT noted on the official transcript.

Unit/GPA Notations

At the end of each term, a grid is displayed that notes the student's performance values at the end of the term.  The grid has the following six columns: COMPL, ATTM, PSSD, GPTS, GPA, and BAL; and the following three rows: TERM, UC CUM, and WK LOAD.

Columns:

COMPL: Credit bearing units completed with a passing grade. Includes P/NP units; does not include workload units in the TERM and UC CUM rows (except for the WK LOAD row, which does include workload units).  Incomplete, In Progress, NG, and Y grades do not count as completed units.

ATTM: This column represents all letter-graded units attempted (all courses that impact the student’s GPA). An "attempted" unit is a unit for a letter-graded course where the student has enrolled and received a grade. Does not include In Progress, Incomplete, NG, or Y grades. Does not include P/NP or S/U courses.

PSSD: Credit bearing, letter graded courses passed (does not include workload units).  Does not include In Progress, Incomplete, NG, Y, P/NP or S/U graded courses.

GPTS, GPA, and BAL: Details of these terms can be found on the Official Transcript Page

Rows:

TERM: Total units for the term.

UC CUM: Total units for all UC work - including all units earned at other UC schools.

WK LOAD: Total units earned for the term, including workload-only units. Workload-only units are assigned to courses that do not carry units toward graduation or grade point average (e.g., WLD 041C, 055M, 057E, 057P, 057S, 057T). Workload units are applicable toward minimum progress and verification of full-time status.

Other:

END TERM: UC GPA at the end of the term. This does not change after it is calculated initially (even if courses are repeated or grades changed).

Academic Standing Notations

Quantitative (Minimum Progress)

At the end of each term, a Minimum Progress Average (MPA) calculation and a Degree Progress Average (DPA) are calculated and noted after the term on the internal transcript. These notations appear just below the course schedule for that term and are calculated after grades for that term are finalized by the Office of the University Registrar.  More information about minimum progress can be found in the Minimum Progress section of this guide.

EOT MIN PROG STATUS: Minimum progress status at the end of the term. This status does not change - even if courses are repeated or grades changed. (GS for Good Standing, PB for Academic Probation, PC for Probation Continued, SD for Subject to Disqualification, and DS for Dismissed.)

MPRG 01 This indicates that the following line contains MPA and DPA calculations at the end of the term.

DPA: DPA at the end of the term. The first number is the DPA at the end of that term, the second number is the number of minimum progress units earned to date, and the third number is the number of terms being used in the DPA calculation.

MPA: MPA at the end of the term. The first number is the number of minimum progress units earned that quarter; the second number is the number of minimum progress units earned during the academic year; and the third number is the number of terms being used in the MPA calculation (1, 2 or 3).

MIN PROG STATUS: Minimum progress (quantitative) status after a term.

Qualitative

At the end of each term, a qualitative academic standing is also calculated. This is calculated based on both term GPA and overall GPA - both of which can have a bearing on a student's academic standing.

EOT ACADEMIC STATUS: Academic status at the end of the term. This status does not change - even if courses are repeated or grades changed. (GS, PB, PC, SD, DS.)

ACADEMIC STATUS: Academic standing (qualitative) status at the end of the term.

Class Rank

The rank indicates where a student is within their college and class level. As such, a sophomore in the College of Engineering would be ranked against all other sophomores in Engineering. The rank is listed next to the college code (AE, BS, EN, LS) where the student is being ranked.

If the student is in multiple colleges, multiple ranks will be displayed (one below the other), each preceded by the appropriate college code. Also, the order of the rankings will correspond to the order that the student's colleges are listed at the beginning of the transcript.

Retroactive Changes

Occasionally, a student’s term record will change after the term has ended. For example, if the student petitions the Grade Change Committee for a retroactive change and the petition is approved, or if an Incomplete grade is made up, or if a repeat is keyed after the end of the quarter. In these cases, a student’s GPA, or even their academic standing, can change. A student's record is closed after his or her degree has been awarded. Only clerical and procedural errors may be corrected. See also the Retroactive Actions section of this guide.

However, as noted above, the following do not change when a retroactive change is processed: END TERM (GPA), EOT MIN PROG STATUS, and EOT ACADEMIC STATUS.
