Switching Sections of the Same Course
You may add or drop classes using Schedule Builder during Pass 1, Pass 2, Open Hours, Open Registration and Schedule Adjustment. The last day to add classes on Schedule Builder is the 12th day of instruction. The last day to drop a class without the permission of your Dean’s Office is the 10th day of instruction for courses designated as 10-day drop courses and the 20th day of instruction for courses designated as 20-day drop courses.
Switching sections of the same course if space is available in the desired class section
In Schedule Builder, under Actions, select "Swap sections or classes." Find the section you wish to enroll in, and select “Swap.” If there are seats available in the new section, you will be dropped from the old section and enrolled in the new one simultaneously. If there are no seats available in the new section, and you did not allow waitlisting, you will remain in the old section. If you do allow waitlisting, you will be dropped from the old section and added to the new section’s waitlist.
If you chose to use SISWeb, do not drop the original section first. When making a section switch, first search for available sections of the desired class using the Class Search Tool. When you search for classes, the results will display the classes with the amount of space available in each. Select the desired section and then Add to Worksheet. Select Dropped from the Action column for the section you wish to drop, and Add for the course you wish to add, then Submit Changes. Check your schedule to confirm your enrollment in the new section.
Switching sections of the same course if space is not available in the desired class section
If you are attempting to switch sections to a closed class section prior to the add deadline, obtain an Undergraduate Course Change form.
- Obtain permission and signature of instructor for the course you are attempting to switch to.
- Submit the completed form to the Office of the University Registrar.
- A $3.00 late schedule adjustment fee will be assessed to your account.
Do not attempt to add the desired closed course with a PTA number yourself after the drop deadline. If you attempt to complete the section switch with a PTA number after the drop deadline, you will not be able to drop the old section. Should you add the new section with a PTA number after the drop deadline, contact the Office of the University Registrar to request the drop of the old course section.
If you are attempting to switch sections to a closed class section prior to the add/drop deadline, approval from the Instructor for the course you are attempting to switch to is required.
- Go to Schedule Builder and drop the old section of the course. Important: DO NOT DROP the original section until you have been approved to add the new section.
- Obtain a PTA number from the Instructor or department to add the new section; see Late Course Add Information.
